# Michael Koehler

> Official site of Dr. Michael Koehler — international orchestral conductor, artistic director and professor, performing across Europe, America and Asia and celebrated for the dark, warm orchestral sound rooted in the great German tradition.

Born in Dresden, Michael Koehler began his career as a solo pianist before studying conducting in Berlin, with Sergiu Celibidache in Munich and at the Schola Cantorum de Paris. He is founder and Artistic Director of the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra (2000/2007), Principal Conductor of the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra (2008), Principal Guest Conductor of the Festival Internazionale della Cultura in Bergamo, professor at SMU University in Seoul (2010) and Shanxi University in Taiyuan (2017), and General Music Director of the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra (2019).
