Michael Koehler – International Projects

Alongside his work in Germany, Michael Koehler conducts, teaches and builds long-term musical partnerships across Asia and the Americas.

China — Shanxi Symphony Orchestra and Shanxi University

Michael Koehler made his Chinese debut in 2003 with the Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra in Chengdu. In 2017 he was appointed professor at Shanxi University in Taiyuan, and in 2019 General Music Director of the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra. His work in China has been broadcast by CCTV and was honoured with the CMIA in Beijing, the Chinese Music Industry Award.

India — Sai Symphony Orchestra and fusion projects

With the Sai Symphony Orchestra, Michael Koehler performs Western classical repertoire and West-Eastern fusion programmes. The ensemble's fusion album received the GIMA Award in India for Best Fusion Album, and its concerts have been covered by Indian National TV. Related social initiatives include medical projects in India and educational work supported through the SaiCare foundation.

South Korea, Hong Kong and the Americas

In 2010 Michael Koehler was appointed conductor and professor at SMU University in Seoul, South Korea, and made his Carnegie Hall debut in New York the same year. He has conducted opera productions in Spain, South Korea, Hong Kong, Mexico and Colombia, and in 2022 appeared at the National Music Festival of the USA with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10.
