Michael Koehler – Repertoire

Michael Koehler conducts repertoire from the Baroque to the modern era, with a particular affinity for the German symphonic tradition, the great Romantic symphonies, Italian and French opera, and contemporary Chinese symphonic music.

Alongside these works he regularly performs concertos with soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Staatskapelle and the Leipzig Gewandhaus, including Guy Braunstein, Lothar Strauß, Christian Funke and Michael Barenboim.

Opera and operetta

Michael Koehler conducts opera productions in Spain, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Mexico. His operatic repertoire includes:

Chinese symphonic works and fusion projects

As General Music Director of the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra he has worked closely with leading Chinese composers, bringing major Chinese symphonic works to international audiences. With the Sai Symphony Orchestra he performs Western classical and West-Eastern fusion programmes; the ensemble's fusion work received the GIMA Award in India for Best Fusion Album.
